Lady Dukes shut out Hampton, Menchville

The Gloucester High School varsity girls picked up a pair of wins and a loss in recent soccer action. The Dukes are 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Conference 10 play with shutout wins over Hampton and Menchville.

After losing to the Monarchs, 8-0, last season, the Gloucester girls showed their improvement in a 4-0 win on the Menchville field last Thursday. 

Gwen Robins scored first for the Dukes with a shot just over the Monarchs’ keeper to go up 1-0. Brooke Cheatham scored next after pressuring a loose ball from the goalie.

Robins notched her second goal of the game with a long shot into the net. Cheatham then scored again after dribbling past the Menchville defense on a breakaway and winning a one-on-one with the keeper to make it 4-0 at the break. The Gloucester defense was strong during the first half, with keepers Mackenzie Sullivan and Laura Brewer doing a great job of protecting the Dukes’ goal.
