Lady Dukes post two shutout wins to start softball season

Rain has rearranged the early games on the 2013 Peninsula District softball schedules, but the Gloucester High School varsity Lady Dukes have posted two wins in season opening play.

The Dukes beat Bethel, 11-0, on Saturday on the Bruins’ field in a game originally set to be the season opener on March 12. Senior lefthander Makayla Jenkins scattered six hits while tallying 10 strikeouts over five innings. She also contributed a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Macy Robbins had two hits in the win and scored three runs for Gloucester, Alissa Upton had a pair of hits and three RBIs and Gabby Zarichny had two hits for the Dukes.

 

 

Gloucester opened the season last week with a 27-run shutout of visiting Heritage. Jenkins pitched a perfect five-inning game with 11 strikeouts in her first win of the season. She also had two hits and drove in three runs.
