Lady Dukes open season with straight-set victory

The Gloucester High School Lady Dukes volleyball team proved to be a force to be reckoned with in the season opener at Kecoughtan last Thursday. The Dukes bested the Warriors, 25-17, 25-18 and 25-21, to open the season.

The Gloucester offense dominated the court with front-row attacks led by senior Blair South with seven kills and senior Logan Slusher with six blocks. Setting up the attacks were junior setters Ciera Berg with 10 assists and Cassie Schaffer with nine assists and five serving aces. On defense, senior Janine Green had 10 digs on the night. “I’m excited for this season. The Lady Dukes will be hard to beat. They all play so well together, I just like to sit back and watch it. It is evident how much they love the game,” said Gloucester coach Christine Wilson.

The Dukes take on Denbigh at 5 o’clock this evening at GHS....
