Lady Dukes off to great start in volleyball

The Gloucester High School varsity girls are off to a great start on the volleyball season with three wins and a tournament championship in opening play.

The Lady Dukes won their division of the Endless Summer Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. After reaching the finals, the Gloucester girls won in the best of three games with the challengers from Stone Bridge High School to take the championship for the first time in GHS history. 

Against Peninsula opponents, the Dukes opened the season with a host of Woodside on Aug. 26 and won, 25-13, 20-25, 25-22 and 25-12. Victoria Wilson tallied 10 kills and 14 assists for Gloucester, Logan Slusher contributed four blocks, Jess Haley had five aces and Janie Green had five digs. The Dukes also beat Denbigh on the road on Aug. 28 and Heritage at home last Thursday, taking both matches in just three sets.
