Lady Dukes lose 3-2 in regional playoffs

The 2014 season came to an end Friday for Gloucester High School field hockey players as they lost a 3-2 match against Princess Anne in the Group 5A South final at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach.

Princess Anne scored three goals in the first 20 minutes of the contest between the closely matched teams. Gloucester rallied in the second half, with goals from Cassidy Goodwin and Brittany Romero, but time expired before the Dukes could get the tying goal. Gloucester also had two apparent goals called back in the loss. 

“We made some mistakes in the first half that were uncharacteristic of us and it cost us,” said Gloucester coach Mike Miller. “I thought we completely dominated the second half, limiting them to one shot. “There were a couple of controversial goals taken away from us that, shown in videos, should have been allowed,” he added. “However, I don’t blame losses solely on officials.
