Lady Dukes improve to 4-0

Gloucester High School varsity softball players added three wins to their record in recent action. The Dukes prevailed, 26-3, over Lancaster, 11-2 over Denbigh and 24-1 over Heritage to stand at 4-0 on the season.

Gloucester overcame an early 3-0 deficit to defeat the visiting Lancaster Devils on March 18. The Devils came out swinging the bats with four first-inning hits off Dukes’ starter Kayla Tobin, including back-to-back triples that led to three quick runs.

The Dukes responded with four runs in the bottom of the first with three singles and RBIs from Macy Robbins, Brianna Faulkner and Tori Brown for a 4-3 lead.

In the top of the second, Gloucester’s Alyssa Shackleford had a fantastic running catch in left field from her shortstop position and upped the lead to 5-3 with a solo home run down the left field line.

The Dukes put the game away in the third inning with 11 runs. Nealcyn Watkins contributed a two-RBI single and Morgan Haywood had a three-run home run. They ...
