Lady Dukes improve record to 6-0

Hannah Joyce led a nine-run third inning barrage with two doubles and five RBIs Tuesday to help Gloucester beat Woodside, 10-0, and raise its record to 6-0 in Peninsula District softball. The win marked the third consecutive shutout for the Dukes’ defense.

Junior lefthander Makayla Jenkins (4-0) pitched a three-hitter, striking out eight Wolverines while walking one. At the plate, Jenkins contributed a pair of hits and an RBI. Taylor Distefano also had two hits and an RBI and Colleen Lemay tallied two RBIs on a third-inning single and a walk with bases loaded.

The Dukes had an easy outing at Hampton on Monday, besting the Crabbers, 19-0. Distefano (2-0) struck out 11 with no walks and produced three hits. Jenkins had a double and a fourth-inning home run over the left center-field fence, while Hannah Joyce and Alexis Jackson each contributed two RBIs.
