Lady Dukes fall in regional quarterfinals

The season ended for Gloucester High School varsity girls’ soccer team Tuesday evening when the Dukes fell 4-0 to Kellam High School in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Region Soccer Tournament at Powhatan Stadium in Norfolk.

Kellam struck quickly in its win, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest, and the Dukes were not able to answer the early offensive drive. Gloucester earned its bid to the regional event as the Peninsula District regular season champs, posting an 8-0-1 record. The district tournament winners from Menchville faced Cox in the regional quarterfinals and were also shut out in a 3-0 game.
Seven Gloucester players received 2012 Peninsula All-District honors. Named to the First Team were forward Mary Williams, midfielder Maegan Beck, defender Karsyn Wass and goalkeeper Cheyenne Hogg. Forward Delaney Doyle and midfielder Audrey Collier were named to the Second Team and Leah Procopi received an Honorable Mention.
