The Gloucester High School varsity softball team had another winning week, defeating Menchville, York and Bethel.
Menchville
The Lady Dukes defeated the Menchville Monarchs, 11-1, last Thursday at home after only narrowly beating the Monarchs two days prior, 5-4.
Gloucester put up 14 hits in the win, along with six players having multiple hits. Autumn Cookson picked up the win, giving up three hits, one unearned run and striking out four batters. Cookson also added two hits and scored two runs.
Kyndall Sales and Hannah Horsley each had two hits and two RBIs apiece. Avery West and Lilly Hogan each had two hits and an RBI, while Cameron Palas also collected two hits and scored two runs.
Gloucester scored runs in every inning of the five-inning game with all nine starters recording at least one hit each.
York
The Lady Dukes defeated the York Falcons, 6-1, Monday afternoon at home. Cookson singled in Alexis Dishman in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. West then hit a double, driving in Hogan and Cookson for a 3-0 lead.
Gloucester added a single run in the third inning after Horsley hit a double. Horsley also added two more runs in the sixth inning, powered by a Cameron Palas RBI double.
Cookson pitched a four-hitter, giving up an unearned run in the sixth inning. She struck out 14 batters during the game without issuing a single walk.
Bethel
Gloucester achieved another win Tuesday afternoon, beating the Bruins, 10-0. West pitched a perfect game, striking out 16 batters and only allowing two balls to be put in play.
The Lady Dukes did not put a batter on base until the fourth inning and did not record a hit until Horsley’s RBI single as the fourth hitter of the inning. The Lady Dukes scored eight runs in the fourth inning on four hits and four Bethel errors.
Gloucester will travel to Bethel this afternoon and will be on the road again to face the Mathews Blue Devils Monday. The Lady Dukes currently hold a season record of 14-0.
