Lady Dukes crush Heritage, 24-1

The Gloucester High School varsity softball team improved to 2-0 last Thursday with a 24-1 victory at Heritage. 

Makenzie Smith’s Gloucester debut on the mound went well as the sophomore right-hander pitched a one-hitter. She struck out 13 opposing batters and walked two while also driving in seven runs with a double and two home runs.

The Dukes tallied 14 hits in the win. Bridget Motley hit her fourth home run of the season while Jessica Hogge had a single and a three-run home run in the third inning.

Motley, who also doubled, and Hogge each drove in four runs. Laura Tobin contributed a double with three RBIs while Tori Mielnik added a single and a double.

Smith recorded the first six outs of the game with strikeouts. She added another strikeout in the third inning and struck out the side in the fourth and fifth innings.
