Lady Dukes beat Warriors 8-1 in tennis

The Gloucester High School girls dropped just one match in an 8-1 win at Kecoughtan last Thursday. Dukes’ first seed Christine Riddett did not give up a game but second seed teammate Olivia Edwards had to work for her win. After falling behind, 6-3, Edwards took the second set, 6-1, and won the match in an 11-9 tiebreaker.

Third seed Kelsey Lineberry had the only loss for Gloucester in straight 6-4 sets. Forrest Eversole at number four won, 6-0, 6-3, Katie Masiak found victory after sets of 6-1, 4-6 and 6-3 and Jordan Simpson at number six posted solid winning scores of 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles, Riddett and Edwards took the number one match, 8-0, Lineberry and Masiak won, 8-4, and Eversole and Rebecca Bish triumphed, 8-1.

The Dukes play at Hampton on April 12.
