Lady Dukes advance to volleyball tournament

The Gloucester High School Lady Dukes volleyball team is headed to the Peninsula District Tournament next week after finishing the regular season in third place. Undefeated Woodside topped the district, followed by Menchville and Gloucester with 7-2 PD records.

The Lady Dukes swept Phoebus with scores of 25-9, 25-10 and 25-20 in their last home match on Oct. 19. Samantha Coates had an ace, four kills, a dig and 10 assists in the win, while Colleen Lemay added two aces, five kills and one block. Brooke Slavnik contributed a kill, two assists and a dig, Mikeala Extine had two aces, three kills, two blocks and a dig and Sierra Hogg added two aces.

The Gloucester girls dropped their final match of the schedule, 25-20, 25-11 and 25-16, to Warwick on Monday. The PD Tournament begins next Monday at Woodside.
