Lady Duke booters drop two games

The Gloucester varsity girls’ soccer team suffered two narrow losses in recent action, falling to Kecoughtan, 2-1, Tuesday and Nansemond River, 2-0, on Friday. The Dukes are now at 3-3 in Conference 10 standings.

The visiting Warriors scored two goals early in the first half to make it 2-0. The Dukes, who were celebrating senior night, fought hard to regain control of the game. The defense held strong but the Gloucester offense could not hit the net. 

With 13 minutes remaining, Brooke Cheatham dribbled the ball toward the end line and crossed it to Kessa Romero. Romero crashed the box for an easy tap past the goalie to make it 2-1 but that was all the Dukes would score. 

Host Nansemond River posted goals in the ninth and 13th minutes of the game to go up early, 2-0. The Dukes ramped up their play for the next 67 minutes and held possession better the remainder of the game. The Gloucester attackers had many breakaways and opportunities but were unable to score. ...
