Mathews High School runners Nancy Barnhardt and Kyle Slaughter once again silenced all competition, placing first overall at the Blue Devil harriers’ race last Wednesday at home against Lancaster and West Point.
The Lady Devils completed a perfect race with 15 points against West Point (48) and Lancaster which forfeited. The boys’ squad scored 31 points to place second to Lancaster who had 24 points, and defeated West Point (82).
Barnhardt (22:50) finished 45 seconds ahead of any competition. Following were Kate van Emmerik (23:35), Katie Phillips (24:04), Stephanie Jeffers (24:40) and Lindsey Brown (25:20), placing second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Finishing off the girls’ top seven were Kristen Fauber (26:04) and Mallory Hurst (26:06).
