Lady Devils split pair of volleyball games

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team faced next-door rivals from Middlesex last Thursday in the Lady Devils’ “Black Out” game. Unfortunately for Mathews, the visiting Chargers won in straight sets by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-11.

In spite of the loss, every game becomes a learning experience for the Lady Devils to develop and improve their skills and prepare for future opponents. 

Joice Small and Lydia Hudgins each had one ace. Grace Bandurco had a total of seven assists while Aleya McCurry had five. Offensively, Jordan Hunley had the most kills with three, while Lois Beale, Jada Ashberry, Small and McCurry each had two, and Meghan Pruitt had one.

Defensively, Kristen Frank and McCurry each had six digs, Emily West had five, Bandurco had four, Hudgins, Hunley and Connie Johnson each had two, and Small had one. Additionally, Ashberry and Hunley each had one assisted block.
