Lady Devils split pair of matches

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team split a pair of matches this week, falling in straight sets to Rappahannock on Monday and bouncing back to beat the visiting Charles City Panthers on Tuesday night, also in straight sets.

Mathews suffered its second loss to Rappahannock this season on Monday night, this time on the Raiders’ home turf. The Lady Devils fought hard and had a couple close sets, but ended up falling, 25-13, 25-21 and 25-23.

While the Lady Devils may have lost this match, they are still keeping their heads up as they continue working through the season to make themselves better as individuals and as a team.

Mathews picked up five aces, led by Aleya McCurry with three, while Kristen Frank and Katelynn Blake had one each. Grace Bandurco led the team with 12 assists. Frank (two) and Blake (one) were also credited with assists.
