Lady Devils shut out Pointers

The Mathews High School varsity softball team returned to action Monday night after 17 days off due to wet weather. The Lady Devils hosted the West Point Pointers and earned a 5-0 shutout victory.

Mathews struggled offensively, only two of the runs were earned as the team only had five hits throughout the game. The Devils crossed the plate three times in the second inning. Lexie Miles led off with a triple, Madison South drove her in with a double, Emily Sorey drove South in with a single, and Sorey scored on a single by Josey Bauby that was coupled with a West Point fielding error.

Mathews scored its final two runs in the fourth inning when Savanna Wooten drew a walk to start the inning and Madison South followed with a single. They both scored on a throwing error later in the inning.
