Lady Devils shut out Pointers, Panthers

The Mathews High School varsity softball team added a pair of conference wins this week with shutout victories over West Point and Charles City. With the wins, the MHS girls improved their overall record to 10-6, 4-0 in conference play.

The Lady Devils got off to a slow start on the road last Wednesday against West Point, not scoring a run in the first four innings. They came to life by scoring four runs in the fifth inning and six in the sixth while holding the Pointers scoreless to secure a 10-0 win.

Madison South pitched all six innings for Mathews, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five West Point batters. Savanna Wooten led the Devils at the plate going 2-for-3 with two singles, an RBI, and two runs scored. Taylor South was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored while Allison Foster was 1-for-2 with a single, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.
