The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball program is set to begin another exciting season. The varsity and JV teams will kick it off tonight when they host the Northumberland Indians.
Returning players on the varsity squad include Hunter Thomas, Taylor South, Savannah Wooten, Kai McCann, Mariah Robinson, Maria Spadaccini, Madison Owens, Madison South, Casey Kelly, and Veronica Cosby. New to this year’s varsity team are Micaela Sadler, Kirsten Beatley, Lexie Miles and Harley Hayden.
Madison Owens, Taylor South and Hunter Thomas will be leading this season’s team as senior captains. The team is deeper than last year’s and the bench will contribute to all positions. The younger and newer players are expected to receive significant playing time.
