Lady Devils rally from 0-2 deficit to beat Raiders

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team had a rough start to its match on Monday night as the Lady Devils traveled to the Rappahannock Raiders’ home court.

The girls fought hard but lost the first set, 27-25 and spiraled down, 25-6, in the second set. The team worked hard and pulled together to finish the match strong by winning the final three sets, 25-17, 25-12 and 15-9 for a 3-2 victory.

Standouts for the Lady Devils included Caroline Crittenden with three aces, 15 digs, and six kills; Victoria Bing with three aces, 13 digs, one assist and 11 kills; Sarah Brown with one ace, four digs, 26 assists and three kills, and Mia Gillenwater with one ace, 17 digs and one kill. 

Kristen Frank contributed three digs, Maddie Maggioncalda followed Frank with two kills, and Hannah Robbins, Jordan Hunley, Nicole Brown and Hannah Smith each contributed one dig.
