Lady Devils post 3 straight-set victories

 

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team posted straight-set victories over Middlesex, Carver Academy and King William in recent action. The junior varsity girls, meanwhile, defeated Middlesex and King William.

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, the Lady Devils traveled to Middlesex. The energy level was high from both teams, as Mathews took the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-15. In the third set, Mathews came back at the end to edge out the Chargers, 25-23. 

Mathews had a strong start with its hitters, including Victoria Bing with 12 kills, Caroline Crittenden with seven, Madisyn Jackson with four, Nicole Brown with three, and Sarah Brown and Hannah Smith each contributing one kill each. S. Brown led the team in assists with 27, and Bing, Crittenden and Mia Gillenwater each contributed one assist. The Lady Devils had seven aces total (three from Jackson; two each from S. Brown and Gillenwater).
