Lady Devils pick up three wins

 

With three victories during the past week, the Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team improved its overall season record to 14-1 overall; 4-1 in Conference 42 competition.

Mathews defeated the Essex Trojans last Wednesday 47-36. Seniors Maria Spadaccini and Savanna Wooten led the team in scoring with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Hallie Duncan and Harley Haydon each scored seven while Yolanda Fells and Mariah Robinson added two points apiece. Rounding out the scoring were Sarah Brown and Kirsten Beatley with one point each.

On Friday, MHS hosted conference opponent King and Queen. Mathews easily defeated the Tigers, 49-17. Duncan led the way for the Devils with 12 points followed by Spadaccini with 10, Keely Crittenden with nine, Wooten with eight, Jolie Ewell with four, Beatley with three, Brown with two, and Fells with one point.
