Lady Devils improve to 9-4

The Mathews High School varsity softball team added easy wins over Middlesex and Charles City this week to improve to 9-4 on the season, 4-0 in Conference 42 play.

Last Wednesday, MHS traveled to Middlesex where they defeated the Chargers in five innings, 29-3. After trailing 3-0 after an inning of play, Mathews bats finally came to life. The bulk of the Lady Devils’ runs, 17, were scored in the fourth inning.

Kelly Adams pitched the first four innings for Mathews, giving up six hits, six walks, and three earned runs while striking out six. Madison Owens pitched the final inning, giving up no hits, walks or runs while striking out one batter.
Offensively, Mathews batted .525 as a team, going 21-for-40 at the plate with 10 of their 12 batters having at least one hit and seven of the 12 batting .500 or better for the day.
