Lady Devils improve to 8-2

The Mathews High School varsity softball team posted three victories during the past week to improve its overall season record to 8-2.

Mathews defeated the King William Cavaliers last Wednesday, 9-2. Mathews struck first, scoring four runs in the first inning, and maintained control throughout the game. Madison South and Madisyn Jackson both saw time in the circle. South pitched the first 2 2/3 innings allowing no hits, four walks, one run, and striking out two. Jackson pitched the remaining 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out one. 

Lexie Miles led the Devils at the plate going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, and an RBI. Emily Sorey and Kirsten Beatley were each 1-for-2, while Ellie Armistead, South and Caroline Crittenden were each 1-for-3.
