Lady Devils improve season record to 11-2

The Mathews High School varsity softball team improved to 11-2 on the season with three victories during the past week.

The Lady Devils traveled to Middlesex last Thursday where they defeated the Chargers, 13-1. Madison South pitched the complete seven inning game, giving up six hits and one walk while striking out nine. South also led the Devils offensively, going 4-for-5 with three singles, a home run, and six RBIs. Kirsten Beatley and Madison Jackson were each 2-for-3 at the plate while Keely Crittenden, Lexie Miles and Caroline Crittenden were each 2-for-4.

MHS hosted West Point on Monday. Mathews won the six-inning, shortened contest, 12-2. South threw five of those innings striking out seven while allowing just one hit and no walks. Ellie Armistead pitched the other inning allowing one hit, one walk and two runs, neither of which was earned. Jackson and Emily Sorey led at the plate. Jackson was 2-for-3 with a single, a double, and two RBIs and Sorey was 2-for-3 with two singles...
