Lady Devils hold a 2-6 record

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ softball team now holds a 2-6 record after falling to the King William Cavaliers last Thursday by a 10-1 margin.

The Devils were able to keep the Cavaliers’ run total down eight from the first game against them, but unfortunately the bats just weren’t working as well as they had hoped. Emily West pitched four innings facing 29 batters. She had two strikeouts while giving up five hits and five earned runs.

Abbie Hudgins pitched to seven batters to finish the game with one strikeout giving up no runs over two innings. The Lady Devils offense is still struggling, collecting only hits. Joice Small and Kelsey Ryan each had a single. Hannah Robins had the only RBI on a suicide squeeze bringing in Ryan.

Tonight, the Mathews girls will host St. Margaret’s School where the Lady Devils will look to avenge an earlier loss. ...
