Lady Devils go 2-1 in recent action

The Mathews High School girls’ basketball team picked up easy wins over Essex (47-18) and King William (61-30), falling on Saturday to AA Grafton by a 67-47 margin.

Mathews hosted Essex last Wednesday for the second time this season, racing to a 28-7 halftime lead on the way to the win.

Maggie Scribe and Lindsay Collins led the Devils in scoring with eight points apiece. Also scoring were Sharese Jarvis with six points, Kaitlin Eriksen, Ashley Forrest, Angela Sale, Megan Zeller and Mackenzie Moughon with four each, Sydney Morgan with three, and Taylor Denton with two.

Mathews hosted King Williams in an important district game Friday, and the Lady Devils outplayed and outhustled KW to a halftime lead, 31-14. The Devils widened the margin after the break, coasting to the win.
