The Mathews High School varsity softball team picked up its fourth win of the season on Monday, shutting out the visiting West Point Pointers, 15-0, in a contest shortened by the mercy rule. The Lady Devils also suffered a pair of defeats during the past week at the hands of the Rappahannock Raiders and Windsor Dukes.
Mathews fell to the visiting Raiders last Wednesday, 6-0. Justice Parlett was the pitcher for Mathews. She allowed 10 hits and six runs, but five of those runs were unearned due to Devils’ miscues in the field.
Offensively, the Devils were held to a pair of hits—a double from Andie Schlosshan and a bunt single from Hannah Robins. Ellie Armistead and Schlosshan each walked once to get on base. All four runners were left stranded.
Mathews dropped another game on Friday, falling to the visiting Dukes, 9-1. Armistead started in the circle for Mathews, with Parlett coming on in relief at the start of the fourth inning.
