Lady Devils go 1-1 in softball by Hannah Robins

The Mathews High School varsity softball team found itself on both sides of a 4-1 game this past week, losing to St. Margaret’s School last Thursday and winning by the identical margin on Tuesday against West Point.
While the Lady Devils fell to the Scotties last Thursday, Mathews played a much better game than the previous meeting between these two squads, when SMS scored 13 runs.
Mathews pitcher Emily West had three strikeouts, giving up five hits and two walks. Victoria Bing was the only Devil able to get a hit off St. Margaret’s pitcher that night.
The Lady Devils’ bats warmed up for Tuesday night’s game against West Point where the ladies were able to pick up their first win in four games. Caroline Crittenden and West both had two hits each; Kelsey Ryan, Joice Small, Shayla Wheeler and Chesapeake West contributed each one hit.
