Lady Devils go 1-1 against NN District opponents

The Mathews High School varsity softball team fought through the weather to play its first two games of the season, defeating Lancaster and falling to Northumberland.

The Lady Blue Devils played the Lancaster Red Devils on March 20 at Lancaster Dream fields. The Devils started off the game hot, scoring two runs in the first inning. They maintained the lead and the tempo of the game through all seven innings to win, 8-3.

Senior pitcher and captain Kayla Robins pitched a phenomenal game with 16 strikeouts, while giving up eight hits and three walks. The Blue Devil defense, meanwhile, committed five errors.

Picking up hits for Mathews were Bailey Kujawski, Hunter Thomas, Carole Bell and Taylor Denton (each went 1-for-3) and Robyn Barrack (1-for-1).
