Lady Devils fall to King William

After many canceled game opportunities, the Mathews High School volleyball teams took on King William last Thursday for the Lady Devils’ home opener in which both the varsity and JV teams fell to the visiting Cavaliers. The JV girls lost their first set, hustled back to win the second but fell in the third to be edged out by King William. In spite of the loss, it was the JV squad’s best performance of the year.

The varsity’s starting lineup of Autumn Jenkins, Joice Small, Olivia Ashbaugh, Mandy Moran, Olivia Coons, Sarah Ashbaugh, and Lily Jarosz then took to the court.

Mathews dropped three sets in a row by scores of 25-15, 25-5 and 25-13. Although the final scores may not sound great, the Lady Devils played a good match.

There were three servers with a perfect score—Jarosz, Coons and Small. The team had 54 attacking attempts, 60 receptions, and 16 digs. Small had the top passing average this game, Chloe Schaible following up with a close second.Games scheduled at home on Mo...
