Lady Devils enter tournament as #1 seed

The Mathews High School varsity softball team wrapped up its regular season play Tuesday night, beating the Middlesex Chargers at home, 18-0. 

The Devils posted a 16-2 season record, and went undefeated in conference play. In their final three games this past week, MHS outscored its opponents 53-1.

Mathews defeated the Lancaster Red Devils last Wednesday in five innings by a score of 15-1. Madison South threw the first four innings. She faced 13 batters, surrendering only two hits and striking out six. Madisyn Jackson threw the final inning, allowing no hits or walks and striking out one.

At the plate, MHS was 12-for-25, batting .480 as a team. Hannah Smith and Kirsten Beatley were each 2-for-2, Ellie Armistead was 1-for-1 with a triple, Keely Crittenden was 2-for-4 with two singles and three RBIs.  Caroline Crittenden, Jackson, Victoria Bing and Ashley Foster were each 1-for-2. 

The Lady Devils traveled to West Point on Monday where they defeated the Pointers, 20-0....
