Lady Devils drop three games

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team dropped three games in recent action, falling by lopsided scores to Middlesex, Rappahannock and Tabb high schools. The junior varsity girls, meanwhile, went 1-2 over the same period, picking up a win over the Tabb Tigers on Tuesday while falling to Middlesex on Friday and the Raiders on Monday night.

Middlesex

Mathews traveled to Middlesex on Friday, with both squads falling to the Chargers. In a low-scoring JV contest, the Chargers came out on top, 26-19. Kelsey Ryan led Mathews scorers with five points, followed by Sarah Ashbaugh and Lanazia Whalen each with four points, Kayla Carr with three, Kelly Britt with two points, and Olivia Coons with one. 

The varsity game wasn’t any better, as Middlesex took a 20-9 halftime lead on the way to a 53-29 win.
