Lady Devils defeat Panthers, Pointers

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Charles City last Wednesday night, 51-44. Taylor South and Savanna Wooten both impressively scored 13 points each. Other top scorers for the night include Maria Spadaccini (10 points) and Kai McCann (six points). Rounding out the scoring were Mariah Robinson (four points), Madison Owens (three) and Harley Haydon (two). 

The following night, Mathews traveled to West Point for an exciting game, which the visiting Lady Devils won, 41-27. Wooten had the hot hand that night, picking up 15 points. Hunter Thomas (10 points) and Taylor South (eight points) were the other lead scorers. Owens (four points) and Robinson (two points) also put points on the board.

On Monday night, the Lady Devils suffered a devastating loss at the hands of the Middlesex Chargers, falling 48-37. South was the lead scorer with a total of 13 points. Hallie Duncan, recently promoted to the varsity team, also ended the night in double figures (...
