Lady Devils defeat Cavaliers, Pointers

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team won matches against King William and West Point this past week and also participated in the Endless Summer tournament in Virginia Beach over the weekend.

Last Thursday, MHS traveled to King William where the 2A Cavaliers were not much of a challenge for the Lady Devils. Mathews won the match in straight sets by scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-11.

Standouts on the night for the Devils included Hallie Duncan with six aces, five kills, five digs, and a solo block; Anne Stewart with five kills, one ace, three digs, and a block assist; Keely Crittenden with three kills and 16 digs; Madison South with two aces, two kills, five digs, 13 assists and a solo block, and Victoria Bing with five kills and three digs.

On Saturday, Mathews traveled to Virginia Beach for the Endless Summer tournament. Mathews played four pool matches that consisted of two sets each. The first opponent of the day was 3A Poquoson High School. The Devils started strong a...
