Lady Devils continue win streak

The Mathews High School varsity softball team crushed the visiting Charles City Panthers last Thursday in a doubleheader, and easily defeated Lancaster on Monday night to continue the Lady Devils’ win streak.

In the opening game against the visiting Panthers, Mathews went up, 9-0, in the first inning, eventually winning 20-0 by the mercy rule.

Sydney Morgan led the Lady Devils with three hits, followed by Sharese Jarvis, Kaitlin Eriksen and Lindsay Collins with two hits apiece. Sydney James, Sarah Burnette and Kayla Robins each added one hit.

In the nightcap, Mathews continued where they left off, jumping out to a 5-0 first-inning lead, scoring six more runs to once again end the game early.

Lindsay Crigler, Collins and Robins shared the pitching duties for the two games. Jarvis had three hits in the second game and Crigler, Sammi Rutter, Collins and Morgan each contributed one hit.
