Lady Devils blank Chargers, 17-0

The Mathews High School varsity softball team finished the regular season with an overall record of 13-3. Last Wednesday, the Lady Devils easily defeated the Middlesex Chargers, 17-0.

Mathews took control early, scoring 12 of those runs in the first inning and maintained that control the entire game. Madison South pitched the complete game shutout allowing only four hits and two walks while striking out six batters.

Offensively, Mathews totaled only 10 hits but was aided by 10 walks, two hit by pitches, and five Middlesex errors on their way to scoring 17 times. Leaders at the plate included Emily Sorey who was 1-for-1; South, Andie Schlosshan and Josey Bauby, who were each 2-for-3, and Lexie Miles, who was 1-for-2. The following afternoon, in their final regular season contest, Mathews fell to the King William Cavaliers, 4-1.
