Lady Devils beat West Point in OT

The Mathews High School girls’ varsity basketball team dropped an important conference game with Charles City last Thursday, but bounced back on Monday to beat West Point in overtime. On Tuesday, the Lady Devils couldn’t keep the momentum going, falling to Gloucester, 53-24.

 

Against Charles City, Mathews could not capitalize on a 20-17 halftime lead. Charles City opened the second half on a 12-2 run and the Blue Devils could not recover, losing 46-33.

 

Charles City and West Point are the favorites in Conference 42 this year. Savannah Wooten and Taylor South led the Blue Devils with eight points each, while Hannah Rowe and Maria Spadaccini added six points each. Madison South contributed four points and Madison Owens rounded the scoring by adding one point.
