Lady Devils beat Pointers, remain undefeated

 

The Mathews High School girls’ varsity basketball team remained undefeated heading into Christmas break, picking up an important win against Conference 42 rival West Point last Thursday, 41-27.

 

The game was not as close as expected as the Lady Devils jumped out to an early 11-4 first-quarter lead. They held a six-point halftime advantage, 20-14, led by Savanna Wooten who, hitting a pair of threes, scored eight of her 10 points in the first half.

Outscoring the Pointers 8-4 and 13-9 in the third and fourth quarters respectively, MHS walked away with the 41-27 victory, improving its overall season record to 8-0; 2-0 in conference play. Mariah Robinson led the Devils in scoring with 13 points followed by Wooten with 10. Maria Spadaccini added eight points while Harley Haydon chipped in six. Hallie Duncan rounded out the scoring with four points.
