Lady Devils beat New Kent in softball scrimmage

The defending state champion Mathews High School varsity softball team got back on the diamond last week, beating New Kent, 7-4, in a pre-season scrimmage Friday.

In those seven innings, the Lady Devils rotated different pitchers to test their potential. The pitchers did what was needed—pitched strikes. The pitchers finished the game with five strikeouts, led by Justice Parlett with four and Abbie Hudgins with one. 

At the plate, the Devils had an overall good approach. Many made contact every at bat, which fired up the offense and made the team rally to score runs on the board. The team finished with five hits (two each from Caroline Crittenden and Ellie Armistead and one from Hudgins), six RBIs (two each from Armistead and Madisyn Jackson and one each from Raven Schlosshan and Hannah Robins) and also took advantage of the defensive errors.
