Lady Devils beat Essex in straight sets

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up its first regular season win on Tuesday night over Essex. The Lady Devils took the match in three consecutive sets by scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-22.

With the win, the girls are now 1-1 on the season. Standouts in Tuesday’s match included Anne Stewart, Hallie Duncan and Mariah Robinson each with six kills. Robinson also added four digs, Duncan contributed two aces, and Stewart had one ace. Belle Massimino had four kills, while Victoria Bing had three and Madisyn Jackson scored one.

Also adding to the win was Madison South with 24 assists and four aces. Josey Bauby had five digs and one ace, and Keely Crittenden ended the night with four digs and three aces. Overall, Mathews served 90 percent as a team.
