Lady Devils beat Drifters in straight sets

 

After a rocky start, the Mathews High School varsity volleyball team defeated the visiting Lady Drifters of Colonial Beach in straight sets last Wednesday night.

After squeaking by the Drifters, 25-20, in the first set, the Lady Devils won the next two, 25-14 and 25-16.

Standouts for Mathews included Caroline Crittenden with 16 digs, nine kills and two aces; Sarah Brown with 17 assists, five aces and five digs; Kristen Frank with three aces, three assists and six digs; Nicole Brown with one ace, three kills, three digs and one block, and Victoria Bing, who contributed five kills and three digs to the Blue Devils’ victory.
