With Monday’s straight-set victory over Northampton, the Mathews High School varsity girls’ volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the VHSL 1A regional tournament.
Mathews, the fifth seed in the tournament, was scheduled to face top-seeded Middlesex last night at the Chargers’ gymnasium. Middlesex also won a straight-set victory on Monday to make it to the semifinal round, defeating #8 seed King and Queen Central, 3-0.
The winner of Wednesday’s Mathews-Middlesex game will play for the regional title on Friday against either Rappa-hannock or Lancaster.
The VHSL Class 1 state tournament begins on Tuesday, with the Region A champion traveling to Region B.
