Lady Devils 6-0 in conference play

The Mathews High School girls’ varsity basketball team earned a pair of victories and suffered a single defeat over the last week.  The Lady Devils are now 10-4 on the season, 6-0 in conference play.

MHS traveled to King William on Friday and defeated the Cavaliers by a score of 56-47. Ellie Armistead led the Devils with 27 points, followed by Hallie Duncan with eight, Harley Haydon with seven, Yolanda Fells with five, Madison South with four, Kirsten Beatley and Hannah Robins each with two, and Keely Crittenden adding one. 

On Monday, Mathews traveled to Poquoson where MHS suffered its first defeat since Dec. 5. The Lady Bull Islanders sank nine three-point shots and completely overpowered the Devils the entire night. The final score was 55-34. Haydon led Mathews in scoring with 14 points, followed by Duncan with 10, Armistead with six, and Beatley and Crittenden finishing it off with two points each.
