KRISTI ROCHELLE REDCROSS

Kristi Rochelle Redcross, 51, was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2022.

Kristi was born to the late James Daniel Redcross and Virginia Augusta Meekins Redcross in Newport News, Va., on June 29, 1971. She accepted the Lord at an early age at First Morning Star Baptist Church in Bena, Va.

Kristi graduated from Gloucester High School, Gloucester, Va., in 1989. She continued her education at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va., graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education.

Kristi began her teaching career with Norfolk Public Schools. In her 25-year career, she worked for Newport News, Fairfax County, Prince George’s County, Md., Henrico County, Charles City, and Chesterfield County public schools. She took a genuine interest in her students and believed that music education is an essential part of a child’s development.

Kristi had a natural singing talent. She loved and sang many genres of music and was frequently asked to sing at weddings and other events. Kristi had the opportunity to sing with local musical talents as well as international artists such as jazz guitarist Larry Coryell and singer-songwriter Livingston Taylor.

She was predeceased by her parents, James and Virginia Redcross; a special cousin, George H. Farrow, and her grandparents, Maxwell Sr. and Flossie Redcross; Earl Sr. and Virginia Meekins.

Kristi is survived by her loving sisters, Teri Redcross-Ali (Albert) and Tiffany Redcross; three nephews, Nicholas Ali and Nehemiah Allen, and Kaleb Brown; two aunts, Gloria M. Farrow and Gloria R. Jackson; godmother, Betty Richardson; two uncles, Earl A. Meekins, Jr. (Jocelyn) and Maxwell G. Redcross Jr.; special cousins, Maxwell G. Redcross III, Seyvette Miller, Renee Russaw, Kisha Redcross, Nakia Allen; special friends, Shelly Harris, Donna Harris-Aikens, Claudia Diggs and Betsy Wilson; and a host of close cousins and friends.

The family extends thanks to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital Nursing Staff for their attentive and compassionate care. Special thanks to Dr. John Gretes, Dr. Frank West, and Dr. Melvin Schursky.

A service to celebrate Kristi’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at The First United Baptist Church, Gloucester, Va. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.
