Over 110 men, women and children from the local area were treated to a meal at St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, Gloucester, on Sunday for the ninth annual Veterans Brunch hosted by the Fr. McCarthy Council 9428, Knights of Columbus.
The meal was presented by volunteers to the military veterans and their children. Opening ceremonies included the presentation of colors by the K of C Fr. Washington Assembly 2184 Color Corps, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and a rendition of the National Anthem led by two brother Knights—Navy veteran Tom Witty and Air Force veteran Mike Witty. Retired Army Lt. Col. Jim Gierlak, Past Grand Knight, gave a short reading commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
The council’s spiritual advisor, Deacon (and retired Coast Guard Master Chief) Sandy Mattson, Past Grand Knight, led all in reading the prayer for veterans.
