Knights of Columbus donates winter coats to Abingdon

Knights of Columbus Council 9428, the Father Edmond P. McCarthy Council, presented 24 cold weather coats to Abingdon Elementary School for its coats locker on Dec. 2.

Coats are given to students arriving to school without coats to either keep or use for the day. Last month, the council contacted the school’s community engagement coordinator Lauren Ginder to see if the school needed winter coats.

Ginder and the school staff assessed their students’ needs and the inventory in the coat locker. The school requested 24 coats of various children’s sizes.

The council worked with its coat supplier, Knights Gear, to establish the order and arrange for shipping. The coats arrived the Monday after Thanksgiving.

The International Order of the Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization of Catholic men dedicated to the principles of faith, family, community, and life. Council 9428 is associated with the Church of St. Therese on Gloucester Main Street.
