Kingston Parish Preschool in Mathews turns 40 years old this year and is marking its anniversary with expanded educational hours beginning this fall.
The state-licensed school has traditionally offered a two-day program for three-year-olds from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday and Thursday and a three-day program for four-year-olds from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
However, beginning in September, the facility will offer KP Kid Time from noon until 6 p.m. daily, with structured center, art and independent play activities.
Preschool teacher Kathy Lawson said Kingston Parish provides an experiential learning environment, offering age-appropriate activities with the flexibility to follow a child’s interest in a subject.
“If the lesson is about butterflies and the child wants to know about monarch butterflies, we’ll go in that direction,” she said. “If they want to make papier-maché, we’ll pull it together and do that.”...
