King William blanks Mathews, 3-0

The Varsity Blue Devils did not know what to expect out of King William this season. Rumors circulated the Cavaliers soccer team had lost to one of the teams Mathews had beaten earlier this year, but in 2015 King William was a formidable adversary to Mathews.

The beginning of last Wednesday night’s game erased all doubts for Mathews as, 10 minutes into the contest, the Cavaliers scored two goals on the way to a 3-0 shutout.

It was a rough and tumble first half, as Mark Wilson, Kevin Jenkins and Daniel Michinaux were all taken out of the match with injuries.

Halftime gave Mathews a chance to regain its footing and reinforce its defensive and offensive strategies. With two major players (Jenkins and Wilson) still out due to injuries, substitutions were made to fill the gaps. As the referee blew the whistle, Mathews took the offensive and was able to keep King William from scoring.
