King Day 2002

Recognitions, speeches and music marked Dr. Martin Luther King Day Jr. in Gloucester and Mathews in 2002. At Gloucester ceremonies honoring the slain civil rights leader, above, Barbara Howard, left, received an award from the sponsoring Gloucester Union Relief Association, presented by Marion C. Randall. Howard was recognized for her long association with the NAACP and other community groups. The youth choir of St. Paul Baptist Church was among musical groups. In Mathews, photos below, approximately 100 people gathered at Emmaus Baptist Church, North, hearing from several speakers, including Tanisha Braxton, Miss Mathews NAUW.
